About The Club

The Sonoma County Belly Boat Bass Club originated in 1983 when Rich Caro began posting flyers and organizing jackpot-style tournaments at Annadel State Park's Lake Ilsanjo in Santa Rosa Ca. With time, it evolved into a somewhat well-structured club with monthly events, points standings, written rules, etc. In 2003, we had 41 members and 2011 51 members. We fish monthly events from February through November, along with "The California State Classic," a 2-day event in September at Clear Lake, as well as the Tournament of Champions in November, another 2-day event at Clear Lake. And, we now get together in May for the "U.S. Open," another 2-day fishing event held at, where else, Clear Lake. The club is open to all anglers of any age and skill level. Many who start with the club fish their first event armed with only a spinning rod and a rudimentary knowledge of bass angling. Getting to the winners' circle, however, is by no means easy. Although we have a reputation as something of a "poor man's bass club" - most float tubes can still be purchased for less than $40,000, complete with gel-coat finish and GPS system - even accomplished anglers may find the competition level to be satisfactory. Some of our alumni have moved on to bigger venues, including past president Jimmy Reese of Ukiah, CA, who is now enjoying success at the professional level and has appeared in Bassmaster Magazine.

We hold meetings at the Coddingtown Round Table Pizza in Santa Rosa. On the 1st Wednesday of each month (February thru November), we get together at 7 PM. This is an opportunity to discuss the winning presentations at our previous event, plan our upcoming shindig, meet fellow tubers and discuss club business. Since our group often acts as a jump-off point for many interested in competitive bass fishing, this provides a great learning opportunity. We freely share information on successful patterns and presentations. Many in our club now use kickboats. In 2005, oars were voted to be allowed on all lakes. We use livewells and do our best to release our fish in good condition. Be sure you've read and understood the rules before fishing with us. Hope to see you on the water this season! SCBBBC
